Downer has been awarded Waipā District Council’s $30 million contract to maintain the district’s roads for the next three years.
There was an onsite blessing of the contract and the crew before the tenure began.
Waipā District Council transportation manager Bryan Hudson said there was a high calibre of interest in the contract and Downer was the preferred contractor based on a number of attributes including expertise and price.
“We welcome Downer’s commitment to the continuous improvement of our transport network and look forward to growing our relationship with the group,” said Hudson.
“This contract is the largest in value and scope for district road maintenance, and covers road repairs, road sealing, vegetation control, footpath repairs, drainage works and attendance to emergency events.”
The general maintenance of the Waipā district consists of approximately 1076km of sealed roads, 38km of unsealed roads and 7km of reserve access or carparks.
Downer Waikato regional manager Chris Seath said the tender was an exciting move.
“Our local team is excited to do our part in keeping the “Home of Champions” moving. Alongside our partners, MS Civil, Combined Road and Traffic Services and Civic Contractors, Downer is committed to applying our experience both in maintaining Waipā’s roads and building relationships that create success.”
The contract has a one-plus-one right of renewal on satisfactory completion of the three-year period.
